Monterey Park Lunar New Year Festival

JANUARY 31 - FEBRUARY 1, 2026

To welcome the Year of the Horse, Lift AAPI joined the vibrant Monterey Park Lunar New Year Festival, bringing together families and neighbors for a joyful celebration of culture, creativity, and connection.

Our booth was filled with interactive activities for all ages, including book readings, arts and crafts, and fun giveaways that encouraged learning and self-expression. From hands-on creativity to playful moments at our prize-filled claw machines, the space reflected our commitment to fostering belonging and uplifting community voices.

Lunar New Year is a time rooted in renewal, tradition, and togetherness. Celebrated across many Asian cultures as the start of a new year and a moment to gather with loved ones. Through this event, we were proud to create a welcoming environment where community members could connect, celebrate their heritage, and share in the joy of a new beginning.

Save Barnes Park Pool

Lift AAPI was proud to donate a booth space to support local organizers SGV Power Up Beacon. Their team joined us on-site to share their ongoing efforts to restore and reopen the Barnes Park Pool for the community bringing their message directly to community members by sharing their work at a Monterey Park event, right in the community they are advocating for.

Closed since 2021, the pool has remained an important community landmark, and SGV PUB continues to lead advocacy efforts to bring it back to life for future summers. By providing space for their presence at our event, we are honored to help amplify their mission and support community-driven revitalization efforts in Monterey Park.

Storytime with Joyce Ly

As part of our Lunar New Year celebration, Lift AAPI collaborated with Joyce Ly to host a free story time and book signing for the community. The event created a welcoming space for families to gather, listen, and engage with storytelling in a meaningful and culturally rooted way.

Through this partnership, we aimed to amplify the work of underrepresented creatives and provide greater visibility for AAPI artists and authors. By centering their voices during a culturally significant celebration, we continue our commitment to supporting creative expression, expanding access to the arts, and uplifting diverse stories within our community.

Turkey Meal Kit Distribution

NOVEMBER 2025

We hosted a turkey distribution to support families in the Alhambra Unified School District who receive SNAP benefits. The event took place during a temporary pause in SNAP assistance, a time when many households experienced heightened food insecurity.

250 families were provided with a fully cooked whole turkey and three side dishes, making it possible to enjoy a complete holiday meal at home.

Through this effort, we aimed to offer timely relief while helping families celebrate Thanksgiving with warmth and stability.

Book Signing with Joyce Ly

NOVEMBER 2025

In the spirit of celebration and community, Lift AAPI also spotlighted AAPI creativity during our Turkey Meal Kit Distribution event by sponsoring a book signing with local author and illustrator Joyce Ly. Families had the opportunity to connect with AAPI art and storytelling, honoring local talent while celebrating the season together.

We are committed to uplifting AAPI creatives and storytellers in the local community. We believe creative expression plays an important role in representation, healing, and cultural pride.
